I recently stumbled upon one of the neatest formative assessment tools I have seen in a while - aptly named Formative! This website goes beyond multiple choice, polling students and data collection - it really does it all!
Formative runs on any internet connected device and is optimized for any 1:1, BYOD, flipped or blended classroom. You can quickly transform your current lessons into digital lessons, even making PDF documents interactive!
After signing up (you can use a Google log-in too), it is easy to create a class or an assignment. Formative offers a great "How-To" page, and they have some great videos on their YouTube channel for getting started.
Students can either join your class via a secure code or you can have them access just a specific assessment via a link or code. A log-in isn't necessary (although, students do have to type in their name so you can collect their results). You can even share your assessments with other teachers for rich collaboration.
Grading is simple. You can view your course information by assessment, question or individual student. You can quickly grade and give feedback, as shown in the image below.

I'm really excited about Formative, especially in the absence of a traditional Learning Management System. And while I love Google Forms, I really like that all my assessments can be found in one place and can be very quickly graded. I also really love the ability to make PDF documents interactive, so I do not have to retype or recreate a lot of my materials.
Finally, I really respect that they welcome feedback. They even have a place to submit any bugs you find. I think it is only going to improve as time moves on.
I'm excited to explore it more this summer!
Until next time...
